A rather strange "announcement" by Royal Weaver.

After a commenter (see prior post) asked what I thought of Royal Weaver announcing his candidacy on K-Bay this morning, I first had to verify that it was true. I just got off the phone with the K-Bay news director. Turns out Weaver is not running an add on K-Bay. He simply called them and told them that he had filled out the form the state requires before you can legally accept donations - the one Feller has yet to fill out. K-Bay ran it as a news item. You're welcome for that info, Royal. Good luck. Will you be running as a Republican or Democrat? Reminder: In the poll to the right, given that I might run and the fact that I can not prevent those with JDS syndrome from voting "yes" multiple times, you would be well advised to have more faith in the "no" votes than the "yes" votes. My rule of thumb is to discount the anti-Jay "yes" (in this instance) votes by about 50%.

If all the challengers are running for the same reason; anti Charlene, establishment, Good ol' Boys, etc, wouldn't they be better off to decide which of them is most qualified or most electable. In other words it is fairly safe to assume that anyone IN office has a certain amount of "established support" (the kind that supports you no matter how ineffective you are). The other side of that is a certain amount of anti-incumbent (folks who would vote for anyone other than who they have). My simple math says that if you have three or four challengers you are making the incumbent stronger. Each challenger brings their own "pocket" of support, and splits a little piece of the anti pie. Whats your thoughts?

I understand your calculus perfectly. However, Charlene is a bit of an exception to the rule.
In both her stint as a city councilwoman and as a commissioner, she was more installed than elected. In the first instance, she had the backing of all of the horny old goats in the St. Marys Kiwanis Club who had the hots for her AND knew that she was photogenic enough to bring in a lot of other male votes PLUS the extra added benefit that she was a known airhead who could be easily controlled. And, in fact, she was controlled, largely by the late Tilden Norris and that grinning jackanapes, Mike Mahaney. Once she was used up and exposed as an airhead, she was not so supported the second time she ran. Obviously, she was installed as a county commissioner by the old lech, BTW for much the same reasons. As witnessed so eloquently by the T&G editorial of Friday, the only ones she has in her corner now are the builders and Realtors and a few mindless, fantasizing, horndogs. If she does not pull off this insane impact fee stunt next week, that support (except for the mindless horndogs) will evaporate, just as all support from the general populace has long since evaporated when it became obviosu that she never met a conflict of interest she could not blithely ignore - and that the softness of her heart is only exceded by that of her head.

I think that she is done for. What scares me as much as another Sears term is another Feller term. Of all who have expressed an interest in running SO FAR, I can honestly say there is not one who would be a better commissioner than me. We'll see - it's early yet.
